I have no clue what this tool is for. Looking for help for anyone who can tell me what it is and what it was used for. Brass rivets, it opens up with teeth. Please help. Measures approx. 14 inches long. Thank you
????????????
Damn, & just when I thought I was going to get a good nights sleep! Hope it isn't an ancient Eng. torture device!
not a clue, but to help BB2 get some sleep...a rose bush trimmer....
I thought it was possible the first boga grip. The device used to grab fish. I believe this item came from Wisconsin, so possible ice fishing tool, lumberjack, medical. The family I bought this from along with many other tools included the above items for ice fishing, lumberjack tools, medical tools both dentistry and surgeon items, also some linesmen tools from working on telephone lines. I am confused on this piece.
Thanks kerry. Then in the next comment, I read, "dentistry" & "surgeon items". Think I'll feel better with a quickie & a sleeping pill (If needed).
Hey, an old circumcision device?
(That opinion is only for threatening Bb2, don't take it serious, uh!)
I won't sleep for a week now!!!
It looks to me as though it would be well suited for pulling dead heads from flowering bushes. I can't imagine that tool being used to lift anything held in its teeth - they'd either need to dig right into what they grasped or have a gripping surface on the tooth edge, which I don't see.
It seems "just_a_random_guy" agrees with my line of thinking....something a Gardener would use in pruning different plants/flowers. Again, I've not a clue, but sounds reasonable to me. I've been following this in hopes of finding the answer also...just for curiosity sake.
I do not disagree with the possibility of it being a pruning device. The only thing is the edges do not seem to be cutters in my opinion. They do not seem to ever be sharpened either. The more I look at it the more I see it was used to grab something more than to cut. But I am really scratching my head on this one.
I'm much relieved & going to take a nap now.
@ballstatebaseball, not pruning, just clutching and yanking.
"Ballstatebaseball", What action causes the head to open, on your tool? Do you have to pull the 2 halves apart by hand? I ask this because the handle pin is 90 degrees offset to the head rivet, so the handle does not look like it would open the head up, is that correct? Thanks

Thank you to TallCakes. I thought there was an outside chance it was a fish grabber/gaff but thought that it was a longshot of being that. After doing research from the info TallCakes provided it is for landing fish. Thank you SOLVED!!!!
Type in Norlund's fish grabber into google and check images and you will see some very similar to this one. I am just not sure if there were other companies making similar products. Thanks to everyone for their input.
And TallCakes is the winner! Good show that. Now, back to sleep.
Well how neat is that!? I know that I wouldn't have tried to open them up that far for fear of breaking something. Good find, TallCakes!
Kudos T A..... great solve and also to ballstatebaseball for such a clever guess earlier before documentation of item...
