My mother found this floating near the shoreline at Cape Porpoise, ME. Can anyone help us figure out what it is called and used for? We think it is from a fishing vessel.

Probably a belaying pin for (whatever belaying pins are used for) securing ropes on sailing ships. LOL! Nice find.

I live in St. Maarten/St. Martin, in the "Wayward Islands". I joined CW (CyberAsylum) yrs ago searching for intelligent life on the planet & still undecided about my findings! LOL!! Are you having better luck where you are?

Blunderbuss2, WOW beautiful area, someday maybe I'll make it there. I just found CW while searching for what my mother found. Neat site, will use it again soon. I see you have many interesting finds. Thanks for your help.
