Hi all very pleased to pick this one up today from a local opp/thrift store for $3
Presume it's a sugar bowl but not sure? Can anyone help me with the writing and what it means please? I don't speak Norwegian lol don't even know if that's correct grammar!

Hello! Why wait one month for answer when you can ask me :)? I just saw this post. The text is obviously in norweigan and it's not my language but it's very close to swedish so I understand it. This is a herring jar. Sild means herring. In both Norway and Sweden herring in many different ways is part of the older foodculture. Every 'desent' houswife would make her own pickled herring. There are many recipies. So I'm quite convinced this is mostly for your pickled herring. With this you could ofcourse buy pickled herring and put it in this jar, pretending you'd made it :).
My gramma might not be exactly correct in translation but the text on the jar goes something like this :
"Herring in many ways to the hostess praise". Is that understandable?
