This is a bowl that I got from my mom in law and wondered if anyone could add to what I have found on Google. It is signed in red letters RS Prussia with the green leaf design. It is also signed Gesetzlich Geschützt, which I am trying to find more information on. this is a very large serving type bowl measuring 11" across. It appears to be brushed with real gold?? I also tried to research it, to find the pattern on Kovels.com, but there are no pictures. The most I could figure is RS Prussia was made from 1869-1917, anyone else have any different dates or can anyone identify the pattern? I am also trying to find a good place to value this piece if anyone can offer any suggestions on where to look.... Thank you so much!

The translation would be somthing like: Protected by law. I guess it is kind of a copy right mark. I love your bowl!

Well I went to facebook from a website I found rsprussia.com., which is a collector's site. There I found out it is from 1905 and is an RS Prussia Berry Mold and possibly mold #211. There were evidently a couple mold #'s that were similar, so the # is not a definite :) I am happy to have gotten so much info from them!

      Nice RSP.

Prices are down significantly over the last 10- 15 years.

If you check ebay sold items, you will find pricing on similar bowls.

Thank you scottvez, I have looked at some of the pricing on eBay's sold items. I really haven't seen one as large as this one. Most are roughly 10 or 10-1/2" and this is 11-1/2", which one of the collectors said was pretty rare & valued it between $250-$300? You seem to be familiar with the history of it, what are your thoughts?

That strikes me as a "high point" price from years ago and for a set (including the smaller bowls).

I'd think a realistic price would be significantly lower.

I just checked the measurements on several of mine and most are 10"- 10 1/2", with one right at 11".

I don't think the extra 1/2"- 1" in size would inflate the price that significantly.

Also, all pricing on higher scale would assume EXCELLENT condition-- no fleabites or chips. Running your finger along the complete edge is the best way to check for edge damage. And holding it to light will show cracks (or a light finger tap to see if it "rings").

Thank you so much for your help scottvez!

Yes it has a beautiful ring to it. There is no missing paint or even gloss. No grazing, flea bites, scratches, or chips of any kind. The only thing I can see is a couple of tiny "pimple" type marks on the very bottom, which I assume is from the mold process because there is no missing paint or gloss from those either.

I have seen several sets on ebay, do you think this bowl may have been part of a larger set?

Is there a way to find out a pattern name, other than pink roses?

Mary Gaston did several great books on RS Prussia-- check your library and you can probably find the pattern name.

Also there are several RSP collector websites that may be of use.

      Good luck.

Oh great idea! I didn't want to buy the books for 1 piece. I didn't even think of the library. I have checked on several websites :) Thank you so much for all your help scottvez!
