appox. 7 1/2 " wide 6" tall and 4" base I got this vase in 1977 from my children's great-grandmother. She was in her late 70s at the time and told me that she had had it for 40 or more years. She thought it was a premium in a soap box but she wasn't sure. Judging by what she told me I am guesstimating that it is ca 1930s or 40s. No maker's mark. A lot of detail on the fish..scales, gills fin lines. An antiques shop owner told me that he thought that it possibly was made by a mid-west potter. I thought it could be Frankoma 185 Fish flower holder but the silhouette on the picture I found does not match.

Not Frankoma. An obscure pottery in either Oklahoma or Kansas. I've seen, literally, hundreds of pieces of pottery by that company over the years but never a definitive ID on the manufacturer. Most accepted guess is Permian Pottery of Frederick Oklahoma. I've seen maybe a dozen pieces of Permian with original stickers. All were white clay, so I've always been a little dubious of that attribution.
Thanks for the info art.pottery. Have you ever seen another fish vase like mine? I googled Permian Pottery but the results are not encouraging. The only hit I got was for an Old Pottery Shoe with the label affixed to the heel. It showed red clay on the sole and my research says that the Permian area is red clay so IDK....? The lady I got the vase from lived all her life in White Oak, NC and I have been frequenting antique shops around the area hoping to find another vase or info about my vase. If you come across any other info please let me know!
Yes, I've seen several of those fish planters. If you have access to the Bess Frankoma text, there's a little bit of info on Permian in there.
