Large Ceramic Platter- woman in ethnic costume standing in center, surrounded by detail floral design. On back is Artist signature and most likely country of origin. Although the figure on the place looks familiar in style of clothing, just cannot read the back.
Is anyone at all able to decipher the writing on the back, artist's name, country of origin etc.
Would truly appreciate on any efforts and do thank you. 15" diam. with slightly scalloped edging. no damage.
I agree with the comments coming in, that is what I thought at first too. But now not sure. does anyone recognze the GR and the writing below it?
Can the first word be majolica maiolica? Any thoughts?
Russian or thereabouts?
Modras?
Looks Greek to me.

Kathrinecollections, I think you are right. I compared my platter to others and it is so close, it must be. I thank you for leading me in the right direction.
Maiolica pieces were gifts for the Zsar and royal families, this is a piece produced in Latvia or the Ukraine, I think Ukrainian, the anchor definitely signifys the Black Sea, with Engilsh spelled hand painted it was a tourist piece, still colourful I would like it on my wall, best regards Brian
