She's missing her cork (well, so am I...) and her condition is not so great, but I was still intrigued by her and handed over $1.00. What I find odd about this bottle is that although it appears to be cracked in places as a result of some later damage, the glaze is still there, over these cracks. I also don't know what all those pale gray lines are on the front and back. The gray lines on her face are underneath the glaze.
The Italian translates to: "Colors according to rules of A.C.I.S. of 12.23.1957" and then licensing information.
I dunno, maybe she's supposed to look like this...

Very beautiful face . Was it painted using reverse glass painting technique ? They painted from inside glass and your seeing the inside paint separate , Nice buy !!
Manikin - I haven't the slightest idea, lol! A rather strange object, yes? I did buy it for her face. Have never seen anything like this before. When I rub my hand ove her face, it's totally smooth. I only feel the glaze. The areas that look broken appear to be firing cracks, because the glaze is intact. No chips to speak of, either.

Perhaps the "cracks" were deliberate, a part of the decor? It's a beautiful piece, I love that face, great buy. :)
katherine - I have looked closely at this piece and the gray lines are everywhere where there is no color. The backside looks like crazing - not really sure. The glaze is also smooth there.
Is it glass or ceramic ? can't tell by photo but the glaze would still be there if painted from inside as it does not affect outside . I would think it held a liquor at one time so it deteriorated inside coating .
Look inside with a flash light you should see cracks there on whatever they sealed inside with or it was painted from inside .
Manikin - it's ceramic. I used my flashlight and saw only two minuscule bits of light shining through about an inch from the bottom. I think those are firing cracks, because they appear to be glazed over.
This head is vintage and they would have rejected it with cracks from firing . Shabby Chic was not in style so they would not have let her pass inspection . I would love to hold it :-)
I really don't know what to think about this find. My Italian is not so good, so had to use a translator for some of it. There is a partial label on the back which I assume held the cork in place. The more I look at it the more interesting it becomes. Put your hand into my monitor and I will hold it up for you to touch. :-) See, I told you my cork was missing....haha!

Those teeny weeny spots where the flashlight shines through are covered with a clear glaze. No damage on the outside. Other small separations are just that - and no light comes through. Hmmmmff...
