Still yet again another item for which I have had no luck finding information. Anyway it looks to be from the 1930s, perhaps 1920s.
The unusual feature of this piece is the rectangular base and shade. Although the shade is curved on one side. The usual desk lamp has a round or oval shaped base and shade. I was thinking it was a banker's lamp but those have a rectangular shade or hood.
Last photo shows the fixture which is beautifully yellowed. Also has the pull chain. Best of all it works although the cord has been replaced.
Your ideal of a banking lamp was not bad, but this could be also a warehouse lamp, you know those workers working all day in dark room with small desk doing link work(or sewing)
Very nice lamp indeed, i love the small groove at the base for putting pen, typical of that era.

Thank you very much Alan. I like the pen holder too. I found a match for it on ebay but they had no info.
Thank you

WOW -- Love the Character of it !!
Thank you very much antiquerose.
Thank you Caperkid.
Thank you very much kaputs11 we are on the same page. I am not going to destroy the original finish despite the tape marks in photo 2. Drives me nuts that all the people new to collecting seem to think everything needs to be restored.
Thank you Trey.
