This is a very large Solid Silver cigarette case is either from India or the Middle East. There are no marks but I tested the case and it is high quality silver. I think it is either Antique or vintage it certainly has age. The front is I think the Filigree side, but I suppose you could use both sides. There is a solid diamond shape in the middle with some symbols I'm not sure if it is initials. On the other side is some Niello work of a domed building with a wall surrounding, lots of palms and in the fore ground are the palms reflected in the water.
As I said the case is large approx 13 cm long and 8 1/2cm wide and approx 190 grams in weight.
I would love to know the country of origin, and some idea of age.
Many thanks for looking
Beautiful workmanship, differently a keeper.
Sorry don't know the origin but it's WOW!!!
I would think India and from the 1930s- 50s.
The cigarette case itself was a popular souvenir item. I have several from WW2 with engraving (some with Taj Mahal) and other items that are filigree work-- well known for quality.
Your case is a big step up from what is usually encountered: the fantastic filigree/ initial top and solid silver really makes it stand out from what is typically encountered.
