This ring has been passed down my wife's family. Gold with 20 diamonds and a large ruby. No stamps. We've had a few lost diamonds replaced, the jeweller had a hard time matching what he said were "old cut" diamonds. He also restored the claws holding the ruby. It may come from Russia or Eastern Europe but not sure. It's been in the family since the 30's but I have a feeling it was old even back then. Anyone has a guess or suggestion age and origin?
Beautiful ring, and family heirloom, Olof!
More pics of the mount would be useful :-)

Thanks! I will try posting some more photos. I forgot to say it's hollow; between the large and small diamonds you can see through the ring. Underneath you see the back of the ruby. I thought rubys should be transparent? Maybe not. This one is shimmering but not transparent.
Here is an explanation of "old cut" diamonds:

It looks like a Cabochon cut ruby and is usually applied to opaque gems, while faceting is usually applied to transparent stones. Very beautiful ring !
Beautiful!
