It's been a while (at least for me) since I posted something. Not a lot going on in my neck of the woods. The Labor Day weekend holiday has really wiped the thrifts from all the half price sales last week. However a trip to Volunteer's yesterday turned up these nice mid-century oils and one water color. All are signed. The watercolor is the largest 16"x 20" but it's illegible (C.A. Coop ?) possibly. The oils are signed by Fleet and the other by Robert Scott. They're both 8" x 10"and in really large chunky frames. The fanciful cafe scene by Mr. Scott is typical of his work and he is a known an listed artist. His larger works go for a few hundred but this one is little so not really all that valuable, but collectible. They'll make a nice grouping with some of the other little mid-century paintings I have. -Mike-
Love these types of paintings, they are right up my alley. A grouping of these would be so charming, I've seen them done on home decorating sites! :)
Very nice paintings. I don't quite understand the terminology of these stores you Americans use thought, so thought I'd ask. Is a thrift store like our charity shop? (items donated to, lets say, Cancer Research or Oxfam who have shops in most towns and cities). I'm guessing Volunteers is one of those shops?
Sorry, just trying to get my head around it! Thanks
Thanks Hamish :)... yes the very same thing as your charitable donation shops. Volunteer's of America helps those in need after disasters much like the Red Cross does. Other shops like Goodwill and Salvation Army help the handicapped and create jobs. Always great places to find treasure for sure. It's surprising what people will donate.
Thanks Katherine :) ....I really love MCM anything but paintings are my favorite.
