All I know at the moment is that it is a Singer model 27 Serial number N123081. Can anyone tell me about the decal. How do I go about refurbishing it, without diminishing its value? Something is missing and I'm not sure what. I happily except any information that can be given.

http://www.singerco.com/support/machine-serial-numbers/single-letter this will give you the date of manufacture, 1900!!
Be very careful with cleaning the machine I used hot soapy water but sparingly and let it dry before doing it again I repeated this until I had all the oily scum removed then gave it a polish up with some furniture oil. I also took all the chromed bits that I could remove off and soaked them in hot water with baking soda and vinegar and then uesed steel wool lightly to clean them up and again oiled these as well.
The Decals are sphinx you can find pictures if you google antique singer sewing machines, and click images, click on any links that interest you there are some good sites with good information.
It appears to be missing the steel pin the cotton reel would sit on top of the machine on you'll know what is missing if you do some research online. Look up manuals as well I managed to download one for singer 27 free.
