I purchased and old wood sewing box from a local Mom & Pop Thrift Store today....I paid $2 for box and it's contents.....Found these buttons amongst the contents...I don't have a clue what type of buttons they are, they look kinda military..I make handmade jewelry and clutch purses, thought they would work great with my creations...Lol Need a little insight ref the buttons...Please & TY
Nothing written on the backs of any of these buttons?
Pic #1~J.R Gaunt & Sons...London
Pic #2~On the front it looks like cursive R.L.R. Abbreviation
Pic#3~Royal Marines( front)
Pic#4..MachineGun Corps(front)J.R.Gaunt & Sons..London(back)
Thanks
The pix are pretty blurry, but I think you need to do some research before you start sewing them on purses. They may only be worth $2-3 apiece, but appear to be history.
Well, assuming these are all real - and maybe even if they aren't, they do have interest to a militaria or button collector interested in British regimental buttons. Perhaps not a "Great" find, but a "very nice" one. The shape of the crown places them prior to 1952, when Queen Elizabeth II became queen and the shape of the crown changed. The Machine Gun Corps buttons are interesting because the organization only existed between 1915 and 1922. The ones you think are RLR look like the RTR buttons of the Royal Tank Regiment, worn after 1939.

Now we are getting somewhere Chris! Hope these are real, even if they aren't worth much.
Thanks to all that left a comment.....Guess I'll hold off sewing them on my purses..LOL LOL A tad more research would be the smart thing to do....Thanks Chris for the great info u provided....
Good thing you posted them. They are worth more than 2-3 bucks that's for sure.
Do you know there is such a thing called "The Button Society"? Buttons are a huge thing in that corner of the world ;)
