I put this under the category of folk art. Just a guess. It's a painting of a black man in modest surroundings. The signature is something I can't quite make out. It was painted in 1882. It's on canvas and the art is 24 x 15 inches. Any help would be appreciated.

Well done paris1925. Kudos. Perhaps Rustyboy has an auction in his future? As they say on Antiques Roadshow Rustyboy's painting seems to have some "condition issues."

Rustyboy - where did you acquire the painting. I'm 'assuming' (which is dangerous) that it's not a print? But, I see you say it's on canvas.

      Hi
      Rustyboy
Maybe you can add pictures from the backing of this painting this could help get some other idea, stretcher , canvas colour, any marking, staple or nails, you can add 2 more pictures on your post.
Sometime the back tell more story than the front.

      Regards
      Alan
