I am new to this website. These oil lamps were my great-grandmothers (from England then Massachusetts). I have had them for over 50 years. Can anyone give a guess on their age? I have looked everywhere I can think of, but I've had no luck. The taller one is painted with what looks to be a church or castle (England?). The wick raiser says "W B G corp eldorado" And the smaller glass lamp has a shield & star pattern and says G E M with 5 stars on the wick raiser. Thank you for your help.

The metal base with internal painted stem one dates 1890's and the other one (it has been reproduced) looks original and would date 1870-80's. You can't use the burners to date oil Lamps since they were usually replaced. RER(BOB)

Loumanal, I am not certain how to personally reply to you (?). I want to thank you for your very quick response. I am impressed. I actually have 2 more ??'s -However i don't know the appropriate protocol. ? Thank you

I've been a collector of Oil Lamps since 1973 and I have personally handled thousands. I belong to the Historical Lighting Society of Canada since the early 1980's. There is no protocal per say here at CW but any response should be as per what you have done here so everyone can see and learn. By all means, upload photos of your other lamps and I or other collectors will tell you more about your lamps. There are people here on this site that are specialist in Glass, others in pottery etc..it's a fun place to see beautiful things and learn all about them. You can send me photos or ask me questions directly and my email is rer1@sympatico.ca Bob

My first question was how did you acquire your oil lamp knowledge? -But you may have just answered this in your last response. Tho I was kinda hoping you knew of a super special secret book I could buy or some little known online site "guide to everthing you ever need to know about oil lamps"! :)
And the second question was (I felt a bit silly asking), at the end of your 1st response it said "RER". And I didn't know what that meant. I think I figured that one out. Your initials?
Thanks again. You have been very helpful.

There are some great Basic books written by Catherine Thuro on Oil Lamps and they usually come up for sale regularly on eBay. Being a member of a Collector's society that researches oil Lamp especially N.American ones, I have access to more specific information on Oil Lamps. I have a few extra copies of Oil Lamps one "The Kerosene Era in North America. BOB
