This is what kicked off my collection.
When I first saw this beaker I was amazed that it had survived intact.
This delicate little glass beaker at only 9cms high, represented everything about that Russian tragedy, fragility of life, love, revenge betrayal, greed, power, faith, hope, despair and death. Representing everything it is to be human, this beaker survived whereas hundreds of similar beakers must have been shattered and destroyed like so many lives at that time.
It is amazing how artefacts give substance to a place and time. My hands touched what you touched, I see what you saw. It lends history a sense of humanity. That's why I love collecting and glass that most magical material of all.
