    I don't know much about these face jugs, but I saw this one at auction and had to have it. I can't read the signature on the bottom and I suppose the numbers are a date so this one is only a few years old.

      great face jug! I have a few but none with horns like yours. It's amazing that they lasted through the years without breaking, being so fragile and all. There is a lot of history and folk lore that I've read about face jugs. Some historians say that they were not used for liquids, but, were a collective representation of the maker or owner and was buried as their grave marker. I also heard that they were buried outside the entrance of the dwelling to ward off evil spirits.... similar to a witch ball.
