We recently purchased this bench at an Estate Sale. The carvings are 99% in tact. The owner said that it had met the misfortune of being reupholstered by that show "While you were out". The diamond shape of fabric in the center does not appear to be original. We think the wood is cherry. All four legs have wooden wheels. We'd like to know style and age.
Hi there. I wish I new more info to give you but all I've got is that this is called a "Settee". Have you looked underneath by any chance, there may be something written but I'm not sure how much of the original was removed. When you do your search just put in Antique Settee and go from there. And by the way, the 'wheels' are called casters. I've called them wheels before too.
This could be easily fixed with the right trim and upholstery tacks it could look good.
Thanks for the heads up on wheels being casters. We have not removed the dust cover from the bottom of the settee yet to see if there are any manufacturer's marks. We've been having fun buying absolutely destroyed chairs and tables so the basement workshop is quite full. One of these days, I'll post before and after pics of our projects.
Sounds great! Would love to see them all.
I don't see a lot of age with this piece.
The carving looks very simplistic/ rough/ minimal to no handwork.
I would think that this is a 20th century piece.

Thanks Scot. We know its at least 50+ years old because of a "purchase trail". The current owner had it 20 years, their parents 35
Yep-- looks mid to late 20th century to me.
