This is another of my Italian Silver compacts marked 800, this was also made in the 1940s.
The whole case has a brushed finish with a engraved floral pattern running around both sides of the borders. Looking from the side you will see that it is an unusual oval shape. The catch is a polished silver and clips over a Chrysophrase stone set in a bezel surround. When opened it has 2 compartments one with a mirror and the powder container, which still has the powder filter and puff. There a silver catch at the top of the mirror which when open reveals a second compartment, does anybody have any idea what this was used for, the only thing I can think of is that it was used for visiting so cards. It is quiet a heavy compact.
Many thanks for looking
I have not seen a dual compartment compact like this before - probs because I don't know much about them - but I think it is fantastic. Some great work in this.
Thank you Karen, for passing by and leaving a great comment.
