items has mark of 3464n i can't find info on it
also each side of the trivet has been marked with 18, does that mean anything. I'm trying to date it and also determine if it silver plate can i tell from the mark?
Nice! The maker is Wallingford, CT. That mark was in use 1903-1941 before they where bought by Wallace.
N S Usually means nickel silver, i.e. copper, nickel and zinc but it looks to be silver plated on top of the nickel alloy. 3464n is probably the model designation.
Silver plated "nickel silver" is typically stamped EPNS, electroplated nickel silver. If it's only nickel silver it's stamped NS.
Thank you both!!! So nice of you to share your knowledge.
