Unknown origin other than older man gave to friend for helping him. Came with assortment of wooden hand planes, drill brace, and framing chisel. 33" long and very heavy. No tool maker identification marks or name.

    Any ideas?

It may have been used debarking but I would sooner say it is a hollowing chisel. I have them the same design as small as 6" with a 3/8" cutting edge. The one you show is a socketed handle and possibly marked where the socket meets the wooden part of the handle.

I had not thought of debarking. My research found it called a debarking tool and also a "spud". Apparently my Spud is a more common shape though some were more squared on the end and others had an all metal handle.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
