Having a penchant for old glass, I have been looking longingly at these footed sugar dishes for some time, but usually they are quite expensive (USD 200-500, depending on colour and rarity), so I bought this on a flea market despite its less than perfect condition, because I could have it for a very reasonable price! It has a very faint rosy tint and also optical stripes on the bowl. It was made at Holmegaard Glassworks around 1850.
On the second picture I’ve put some sugar lumps (stolen from a hotel in Norway…) in it and on picture 3, their modern equivalent: small bags of sugar (from some of the places I’ve visited in recent years – Nepal, India, Oman, Qatar, Iran, USA...).
Height: 10 cm; diameter 8.5 cm
very beautiful does it have any markings?
So nice
Thanks, everyone! Sean, no marks except for the pontil mark.
I have called the Norwegian police about the sugar.
