    BuckeyeFat…

Literally found this on the ground. What I can tell you: 11 1/2 inches long including the handle. One edge has serrations and one side of the blade is every so slightly concave. One side of the blade has the edges beveled. No markings that I can find on the heavily pitted blade or handle.

Talked to my dad about it and he said his granddad cut down an old corn knife like this, but couldn't explain the concavity. (This is not that knife he was just giving an example) He also speculated it was a cut down butchers knife. Any ideas? I realize it's probably near impossible to tell, but I am fascinated with old tools and where they come from and what they are for. Not knowing is driving me nuts!

Picture #1 seems to show a quite thick blade. That and the length you state makes me think it is/was a hori hori knife.

You can look for a similar item in gardening supply Catalogue or at local nursery.
