Another Sterling Silver Ring I had for years, but one side is marked with 925 and the other side is marked with a PT - I believe. I thought I read that PT means Platinum, but I am not sure IF that would apply here! Or is that just the maker ???

Older ring -- maybe from the 1970's or so I am thinking? Thanks for any other info and for looking.

Not Platinum. Platinum is normally "Plat". Those letters are probably the initials of the silversmith.

@efesgirl -- Thanks for your comment.

I knew I had read somewhere about PT - also meaning Platinum....as that is why I thought it was. See link below:

      http://www.rough-polished.com/en/expertise/12974.html

      There it says [QUOTE]:
''''Platinum alloys have three assay numbers - 950, 900 and 850 – and two types of metal denomination – Pt and Plat., for instance “900Pt.” """"

Also here at this site it says [Quote]:

      http://cook-county-silver-buyer.com/

""Platinum should be marked "PT", "PLAT" "Platinum", "900", or "950". Rings are marked inside the shank and chains are marked on or near the clasp. Please look for one of these marks to ensure that your item is solid platinum."""

There is another indented stamp next to the initials. Give it a good clean with a Q-Tip and silver polish and take a look.

Here's another website for platinum jewelry ID marks. With the number of fakes around, I always take anything stamped with a precious metal mark to my friend at the pawnshop for testing.
