Ok I have made a big mistake of selling signed art pieces before I knew what they were this time I'm determined not to make the same mistake can anybody make out this signature it looks like Matt or mark something on this black vase that is about 14 inches tall and has that half cut sweepy thing going on and it has streaks of red and gray paint through the bottom it's very nice it's very artsy and I just want to know of anybody recognizes it thank you very much

Looks like something like ( in my opinion ):

      MATT SITTER
      MATT SITTLER
      MATT SETTER
      MATT SETTLER

I think ?? the first name is MATT..........and the Date is '86 on it.

~ ~ Rub some white talc over the signature and post us another pic

Yes it does say 86 I'm not sure if it's Mick Matt mark and yes I believe the first letter of the last name is s and it has some t's in it is there by chance anybody that signs vases with any name like that? I don't get why they sign a piece if can't even be legible and I'm just going to have to add a new post with a new picture it won't let me tallic didn't work but I rub some pencil on a piece of paper and then rubbed it over and it seemed to make the signature shiny

Yes, rub white talc over signature -- that works the best.

May I ask roughly what area your from? It just sometimes helps to kinda know a poster location -- as that is the first place for one to look for the ID of a Signature. As it could be someone in your area.

Southeast Wisconsin right between Chicago and Milwaukee I found it in a goodwill the signature seems a little shallow maybe it's because the vase has been rubbed on a table I don't know but I couldn't get the talc to stick in the signature

I look for these type of items all the time I know the difference pretty well between something that's made with good quality materials and something that a 12 year old made in school the colors red and grey are underneath the gloss coat and even the base that goes flat against the table is smoothed down very nicely I believe it may be an expensive piece

Rub a wet finger over the signature first, wipe, then try talc -- as there should be some moisture to help the talc stick in the signature.

~ ~ Found a "David and Julie Sittler" and listed in the 2014 GLASS ART SOCIETY JOURNAL. They are from Chicago, Illinois. Also found that a Julie Sittler does Fine Arts and Glass and mixed Media.

?? Maybe they are relatives -- or a family love of glass -- but you have an parent of them of something....I do not know.

Maybe you could contact them ....?? to ask if they know anything

Could it be mark sudduth? Or would he not have be old enough to make some thing in 86'
    8. antiquerose antiquerose, 9 years ago
Could be him ??? As it say he graduated in 1983

      http://www.sudduthglass.com/

      [quoted from there]:

""Mark J. Sudduth is a 1983 Graduate of the
Cleveland Institute of Art. He majored in
Glass with a minor in Drawing. Mark has
been operating a private studio since
1983. His work consists of hand blown
      and sculptural glass.....""

Would have to find a signed piece of his work with Signature to compare.....worth a try I guess......?? Do not know till we Sleuth some more.....LOL
