THIS CAST IRON WATER HYDRANT WAS TOO MUCH TO RESIST. IT WEIGHS ABOUT 200 LBS IS COMPLETE AND ACCORDING TO THE CADSTING PLATE IS A 1894. I FIGURE IF NOTHING ELSE I'LL PAINT IT PURPLE AND GIVE IT TO MY BROTHER-IN- LAW A RETIRED FIREMAN. IT APPEARS TO BE A MUELLER MADE IN ALBERTVILLE ALA.
Nice find. I have a Mueller made in 1894, but it was made in Chattanooga, tenn.
It is still in service when we just tested, it would not shut off. Did yours come with the insides? Mueller doesn't stock parts and before we tear it down and try to keep it in service, just wondering if it is as simple as a coupling with a shear pin that may have broken.
Albertville Alabama began making fire hydrants in the year of 1975. I hired on in Aug of 1979. Prior to Albertville plant they were manufactured in Chattanooga ,Tn. Before Chattanooga they were manufactured in Decatur Illinois. Hope this helps. Really no way this hydrant is 1894. possibly is 1994.
