    HI Folks
Here's a very large barrel top trunk I have just completed for a customer. I certainly wish I could keep this one. You just don't see the grape hardware that often, and this is the first one I have seen with velvet material on the front of the tray. This trunk stands 32 inches high and weighs in at 85 lbs. A very solid and well built trunk.

Really special! I would have a hard time letting go of this one too.Your
work on the interior is exceptional . The hardware on this one is very unique (You have done a wonderful job of bringing it back.I've
only seen it on maybe 10 trunks so far. It is a favorite.
      Thanks for this post.

The word "Fabulous" comes to mind. An exceptional trunk and you did exceptional work on the restore. I have only seen one picture of one trunk with the grape hardware -- trunks like this keep me looking through the adds every day....

Thanks ,Drill and Trunkman for your kind words.
Now its on to the next one.

Beautiful trunk, you did an amazing job on the restoration both inside and out.

May I ask where you are located? I have a very large ornate trunk with original interior that I'm thinking of having restored - it isn't something I want to tackle. Jim at HMS restored a toy trunk for me but with me on the east coast and him on the west sending a big heavy trunk to him to restore isn't practical.

      Thanks KathyKay
I'm located in upstate New York, about 40 miles west of Albany in a small town called Perth
I'd be more than happy to take a look at what you have.
Where on the east coast are you?

I just don't think you could get much closer to the original than you did. Amazed.

Super job! I love the trunk and the interior and your work is top notch! My research on the rare grape hardware shows it was patented in 1884 and I believe it was by a craftsman of the Nathan Drucker trunk company, so I believe these were almost definitely made by Drucker, in the mid to late 1880's based on the 1884 patent date. Again, super job!

      Thanks ,Marvin and jscott0363
This was a very time consuming restoration, but I felt the trunk was well worth it.
      Interiors are my favorite part.

I have recently purchased a beautiful trunk that I am restoring. The problem is the interior tray and old nasty wallpaper. I completely stripped everything out but have no idea how to restore the inside with authentic looking papers. Is there a website or store that sells fabric, trim, or pictures . Are there books you would suggest for the beginner. I have seen so many badly done jobs that I don't want to add to the chaos.

Trader44, Sorry I don't use papers in my trunks ,only cloth. It is a challenge to find trims and pictures and new old stock just does not exist. There are beginner books out there but I would not know which to recommend as I am self taught.A lot of trial and error. You may want to try Jim at HMSantiquetrunks.com. He might be able to help you with some trim and pictures.Rumor is he starting to sell trims and pictures sometime soon. OR I would gladly do the interior for you if interested. 518-762-8867
      Thanks for the questions

There are actually 2 other slat hardware designs shown.

I'm hoping to find both of them someday

I hope you do Ben. I finally found this patent the other day.
      https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/9c/52/04/2bd509f150ed7a/USD11523-drawings-page-1.png

Ironically it was the 1600th trunk patent in my collection, it made my day .I had been searching for a while and it finally showed up.
