I don’t have much information about this particular cap, and I’m not even sure it’s displayed correctly.

This is a Balmoral bonnet, as worn in some Scottish regiments of the British Army, and often by pipers. The lower portion has dicing, and I believe the red, white and dark green colors are associated with the Gordon Highlanders, Royal Highland Fusiliers, Seaforth Highlanders and likely a few others.

The lining has been cut out, and I’m not sure the era this piece was issued in. It may have had a flat black ribbon bow – a rosette – attached to the side and/or a cap badge. There are holes that may have been where the rosette/badge was attached, or it could be mothing.

The third photo is of the Queen’s piper, wearing a similar bonnet with rosette, badge and feathers.
