Now when I get the chance to go on the hunt, so to say, I'm trying to train my 'eye' and thoughts to something I'm really not used to looking for. It's a challenge and sometimes a struggle because I keep wandering back towards what's familiar.

Lately I've been dealing with a lot of mid-century vases and jugs from West Germany and I've decided to extend that a little further with other home decor items.

I just purchased this bronze figurine, 11" tall x 3 1/2" wide, and haven't had time to do my research on it but I'm pretty happy with it. It's from the 60's and designed by Bodrul Khalique. So far I've only learned that he passed away 2 years ago. What I was reading didn't even say why or anything else about him so it looks like I've got some work ahead of me but I'm excited to be going in a new direction.

Not sure what category to put this in.

    Enjoy

      Hi!
Bodrul Khalique was born in 1978 so it's not from the 60's =) The sculpture was sold by IKEA, don't know what year but probably around yrar 2000. IKEA should be able to give some more information.
      Regards,
      Wanja

      Hi,

Bodrul Khalique was my brother in law however I had known him for well over 20 years and before I married his sister almost 5 years ago he was like a best friend and older brother in one.

Bodrul (Bod/Bods as he was known to friends) won a competition when he was studying at college. The prize was a 6 month contract in Sweden with IKEA where he subsequently lived for 2 years or more and completed his Masters at HDK. It was when he was working for IKEA (his contract got extended) that he designed the items shown in the images but also a few more items. The most popular being the spöka children's night light range.

Before he passed he worked for a design consultancy mainly designing for retail companies. In his memory they set up a competition at Ravensbourne College where he studied here in the UK.

Bodrul passed away sadly and it will be 3 years in November. He was married and was a healthy and happy person. Everyone he met he greeted with a smile and everyone who knew only speaks fondly off him.

I just randomly googled him as I was thinking about him as I quite often do and saw this thread and thought I would comment. Enjoy his work and please help his work legacy live on.

      Thanks

      Kal

I have a pair of these and I have placed a round candle in their arms, it looks really good. I will post them when I've got 5 minutes. Neil
