I bought this piece at a church sale, it was tagged "over 100 years old"
I love the detail in the whole thing. Its driving me crazy that I don't know her history or even what she's made of but I think she is beautiful. I'm puzzled by it as it looks like she has an animal in her apron and its leg is sticking out! I don't have much experience in collecting so I just keep fishing around for some answers. I did the scratch test, shes not bronze.
I did the magnet test, shes not cast iron. My only clue is on top of her head.
There is an Si then possibly an A or R or triangle??? I don't know what that stands for. You can even see the detail of what I think is a hairnet. So cool! Anyone familiar with this please share your thoughts.
It is old and probably more than 100 years old and it's made of "Spelter" or White Metal, a mixture of mostly Zinc and other base metals. The markings probably refer to the style/number of the mold used to cast. It was probably a decoration on a clock or other bigger item. RER(BOB)
