I am the proud owner of quite a lot of glasses (about 90 plus a couple of decanters!) in this series, the so-called ‘Klintholm’ glasses designed by Jacob Bang in 1935 and produced at Holmegaard Glassworks. The series was named after a manor in south Denmark.
Although this shape of wine glass isn't popular these days (a tulip-shaped glass seems to be preferred), these charming glasses look very decorative on a dinner table and they are so art deco! The glasses have a bowl of optically striped glass and black foot and stem. They can also be found with an amber-coloured foot and stem, or (as seen in the picture) with black foot and green bowl.
Sizes and use:
Glass for red wine: 12.7 cm
Glass for water or beer; two sizes (I have both): 10.8 and 12.5 cm
Glass for white wine (I only have two of those and only in green): 11.0 cm
Small glass for water: 8.8 cm
Glass for dessert wine: 9.0 cm. I have a lot of these, so perhaps I should drink sherry more often...
Cocktail glass: 6.8 cm
Glass for schnapps: 7.5 cm
Two decanters, 24 and 28 cm, respectively, including the stopper
There are a few other types (for other types of liqueur etc.) which I don’t have. Imagine how elegant it would look in those days with a dinner table decked out with all these glasses, silverware and white table cloths!
deco does it again !!! beautiful!!!
Thanks, Sean!
