Hi all. Well I purchased this today along with 3 others (which were marked) and I was hoping you wonderful lot could shed light on possible makers and/or date.

Beautiful cup and Saucer. Cup sits on 3 gilded feet and has some wonderful painted panels to the side. The leaf details to the left and right of each foot stands proud the surface. The only mark on the base is a large number 5. Saucer is unmarked except a written number of 1840 in green.

I have no idea whatsoever of date or make, so anything you have will be helpful!

    Thanks all.

This looks like a pattern made by Limoges, France.
The number 5, I imagine, is the mold/pattern number.
1840 could be the year date or the pattern number of the saucer.

Thanks Efesgirl. Unfortunately I did look through images on the internet and there appears to be lots and lots of companies who made colourful footed tea cups, so narrowing it down is going to be virtually impossible unless someone happens to have seen this exact one before. I'll look at Limoges though and see what I can find.

I don't have any knowledge of these. This one is really incredibly nice!! I do have a couple of these that I've posted on CW earlier this year. You might want to check 'em out. Yours, however, is much nicer than the ones I posted.
