Kyratango, can you please chime in on this ;) And anyone with any suggestions. They will all be appreciated.
Unfortunately, this pair of Trifari TM got damaged. Do you recall my story of a trunk load of jewelry? Well, because the jewelry was in the trunk and the trunk, that was in the garage by the way, started to rust. The only part of the vehicle that rusted...right where the lady had put all her jewelry! She must have had a jug of water that spilled in there too, that's the only thing that makes sense why it rusted.
Now here's the real crazy part...this is what I did because quite a few pieces had rust and or corrosion and the rest was filthy. I came home with all of it, got the biggest pot I had and poured straight ammonia in there, threw the jewelry in and said...Make it or don't!
I have to tell you most of it did make it and 90% of the pieces were from around the 30's to the 60's, only some were newer. There is your proof positive that they really did make things better back in the day! I know, crazy. I think that was about 20 yrs ago and I also think, no, I know I would not do that today if all that jewelry came my way again!!!
Here's a warning just as a precaution: People, please don't do this at home!
Anyway, I think this pair still may have some hope and I was hoping kyratango may have an answer for me as her and I spoke a while back about enameling. This was the pair I had in mind and they've resurfaced so I thought I'd ask since I'd like to pair them with a 50's Trifari necklace I have.
So what do you think? Is there any way to remove the rest of the enamel???
Thanks for any help from your ever lovin' crazy CW friend, Sue.
Beautiful earrings, even with the damage, share! I hope kyratango can help you, I know she did a tutorial here some time back, maybe she can share that post again. Or maybe she'll just tell you to match the color with nail polish, which is what I would do, LOL! Good luck! :)
Thanks Katherine. Great idea you have there, these days they do have just about every color don't they. The only problem may be that it looks like 'layers' of enamel on there, so something like that would actually show.
I tried 100% pure acetone and surprisingly, it only made the area I tried it on a bit 'gummy'.
Great post Sue (I'm no help) but Ken's response just cracked me up!!
Hi Sue !
I love your earrings! Shape and color are great :-)
For the damage, if the lack is deep, I would try to complete with polymer clay then, when baked and cold, apply an even layer of matching turquoise nail polish or paint.
If not so deep, complete the lack with drops of varnish applied with a tooth pick (let dry between two applications) then apply an even layer on the whole area.
To remove the original lacquer before a whole redo, I would try a chemical paint stripper.
It seem to be a big project, and the result may not be better than a simple nail polish touch, as Katherine suggested :-D
LOL!!! Nutsy, you're the best and yes I really did do that! I'm telling you, almost all of it came thru with flying colors!!! Do you remember when I first got on here and I asked you if I offended you by calling you nusty? I also told you then that I had a friend that called me nutsy and I suppose this post may just explain why...lol
Loved your comment too! xoxo
Karen, meee too! I'm sort of that person that goes against the grain, so to say but I guess I don't need to say that now, do I?! LOL
kyra, I love that you took time to explain that all to me. Thanks. These are really great earrings and that's why I have kept them so long, even tho damaged. I was always hoping they could be rescued. Here's the thing. I don't have the patience to start a new project nor the time right now to do that, I have far too many various projects going. How bout I just send them to you. E-mail me with your addy.
Trey, mike, Roy and vet, thanks guys for the loves...Always appreciated!
Nutsy, I'm still smiling at your comment! ;)
Thanks for the love efesgirl! Appreciated!
Share, I have been tempted to send kyratango a butterfly that needs her help, but shipping to France is no small cost!!
Sue, most time consuming will be to find the matching turquoise color...
I'm far from big crafts stores and the project would stay in a drawer for long...
Kath is right too for the shipping cost to France !
Promise all of you in need of kyratisation, if I come to USA, will set up a meeting :-)
Sorry, I'm still stuck on the 'trunk of jewellery ' part!?!
Really?!? I used to ship overseas but I don''t anymore...too complicated! And never to France, so I wouldn't know. For a pair of earrings? Wow. I was just going to give them to you kyra! haha they have been here or with me, when not in hiding for a long, long time. Maybe I will just try the nail polish. Can you see in the picture where...well, I will try and give it a try. Maybe Valentino would just love to help me ;) Now there's an idea! She probably knows how to do it too! I've got something for her anyway...downsizing is the only way to go!
Thanks so much Katherine and kyra! 2x xoxo
Hey kyra, I'll send you a thank you card...that can't cost too much! ;)
Sue! Thanks for your intention :-)
It is time for you to have a try for a shareuratisation :-P
Hamish...I used to clean out probate homes in a pretty ritzy area of L.A. (Los Angeles). One house was an older woman that for some reason had put all, I mean all her jewelry in the trunk of a 56' Chevy Belair. My friend called me over the mext day, because he got the cars too, opened the trunk and said "Look"!!! After I found my eyes and got them off the ground, put them back in my head and he said "Here, it's all yours but you've got to help me at the flea market"! I couldn't find my tongue to speak so I shook my head instead.... ;) I smiled over that for a long time! Wait, I'm still smiling! This pair of earrings is what's left, other than beads from necklaces that broke. Every name you could think of in costume jewelry was in that trunk. It was mind boggling! Oh, and it was also awesome when I found plenty that was gold. As good as Texas Tea!
I'm not a big jewelry fan Share, but these are gorgeous!!!
Share, as kyra has said to me, there's no harm in painting these pieces, if the color is wrong or you make a mistake, just wipe it off. Of course, she's such an expert that everything must seem easy to her, but I think I could manage wiping, lol. :)
God love you, kyratango, if you came to the US, you'd be too busy to fix us up! :)
You are very welcome kyra. I will give it a quick shot ;)
Thanks Rick. I have to agree and that's why I never tossed them.
Thanks for the love Efesgirl.
