I bought this rocker in an Atlanta antiques store, in anticipation of my first grandchild (Griffin is now 22), hoping it would increase my daughter's comfort level while nursing. It followed me through several moves, and ended up in the Pacific Northwest. We have no further use for it and will donate it to an upcoming church auction. However, the folks asked us for a nice, compelling writeup to maximize the bids!
Here, so far, is all we've been able to come up with for a description:
Beautifully carved slats in the shape of leaves, and outward facing inlaid griffons with streams of mother-of-pearl dots amid a flowing, fountain motif. Our best guess is it's Art Nouveau.
We have failed to find another rocker that even comes close to this one, and are completely in the dark as to the origin, style, and date, etc. Can anyone help us?
