Picked up three very interesting cocktail rings today at Salvation Army. This is my favorite but it's also a bit puzzling. I don't think these are real diamonds but the star sapphire is sure convincing. You have to get the light on it just right though for it to show up. The pic indoors on my hand is a bit more diffused but the outside box one is very distinct. It was super dirty under all the baguettes. Lots of brown gunk of some kind that smelled like perfume to me. Hard to get under the stones, but it really sparkles with just that bit of cleaning. Very elaborate heavy mounting and everything is prong set. The band looks to have been cut and the ends polished for some reason. One half still has the remains "STER- SI......" and on the other half the remains of a name "..... ANETTA" So it is silver. but I have no idea as to the maker. -Mike-

I think Moonstonelover would know if the blue stone is a star Shappire. Nice ring.
Thanks Katherine and Peasejean ...I hope it's at least a real sapphire too but I don't think they would set diamonds in silver.
I'm not a expert, but looking at the blue stone again, I think it could well be a Star Shappire, so if that is the case them the other stones could well be diamonds, fingers crossed. The ring to me has a Art Deco feel to it.
In days gone by, they used to mount diamonds in silver before Platinum came on the scene. Your probably right that their not diamonds, but eh you never know, you live in hope.

These are around 50'; if mount is sterling, diamonds are rather zircons or white sapphire.

Once well cleaned, check the back of the stone with a loupe to see if there is a tiny engraved L.

What a fantastic ring! It's possible that someone had it sized and, rather than close the ends, just had them smoothed and rounded. Cheaper than adding silver.
Moissanite stones are another possibility.

Mine follows the light sources around the stone with the flashlight. That's pretty cool. The star's legs are different some wider some brighter. The back of the stone is rough not smooth and I didn't see an "L" anywhere unless it's hidden under the edge of the mounting. I could take it to my jeweler friend tomorrow for a positive ID. The clear stones are probably as you say and not diamonds but....lol.

Thanks Ken :) ... it was a total surprise today these must have all come in over the weekend. I should have gone right to the jewelers but I like to post things first to make sure I'm not being too optimistic. Can't say I won't be disappointed if it's synthetic but that's part of the game. Still a beautiful ring either way.
Oh well...bad news from the jewelers. It's a synthetic sapphire with foil backed rhinestones :(
No matter...think of all the people you could fool with that ring! LOL it's still a gorgeous find.
