Apart from my glass, these must be my favourite Japanese item.
These horses were possibly made as Year of the Horse figurines, or just because the Japanese have a long working and cultural association with horses.

The notes that came with them mentions Shoichi Move but I am not sure if this is even a persons name, so let's say the designer is unknown.
Whoever made them they did a great job.

I think this pair have been made from bronze which has been nickel plated.
They are very heavy and there are some scuff marks in places in the coating although only a dark colour shows through. They are not magnetic so are not ferrous based. I know the Japanese work in bronze a bit so that's my best guess for now.

    I just love their style!

    Mare 13cm (5in)
    Foal 8cm (3in)

    Update
I am now quite sure these horses were made by artist Sotaro Saegusa, renowned bronze artist.

Oh Karen, I'm so glad to see these are yours! These get a love, love from me...

I wonder, would they really cover bronze you think? What about pewter? These are sooo cool and go perfectly next to glass.

I did a translate of the words Shoichi Move, and came up with Shoichi (a boys name, actually the 1st son of Sho) and for Move it said Ido. I don't know what that means tho. So it must be made by Shoichi Move, now to find something like it, right.
