Model T sidelights

I found a pair of nice restored Model T Ford sidelights several years ago & just stuck them in the entry vestibule to see them as I pass by. These were kerosene lights and I've always wondered just how much good they would actually have done? Maybe in those dark days you could light them as you left the car so you could find the car when you came back hunting it the night? Times changed a lot with electric lights on streets & parking lots.
