This item was found among possession in a relative's home we are helping to clear. He has moved into a retirement home and cannot keep everything he has. Because of the damage this nearly got thrown away, but it happens to be a very attractive and well made sculpture. OK that's a matter of taste, but I happen to like it.

Could any expert tell me whether this is repairable? I've posted photos of both sides and a close up of the damage. The object measures 5 inches wide x 4 inches high. The tail has been broken off at some point and just crudely glued back on. It's not very secure.

I've also shown the mark on the base - an S topped with a crown, which, from research appears to be of German origin. I can't make out what are the marks beneath the S.

I'd be interested in any opinions.

I think the marks are for GDR German Democratic Republic a post war designation of the area in Germany where it was made. The numbers are the mold/product numbers for this item. RER(BOB)

Thank you for that interesting explanation of the makers mark - the link was interesting, also.

Now, the remaining question is - can the broken leg be repaired and is it worth the effort? Not something I would attempt. And probably not worth doing unless the piece has a decent value. I tried looking up Karl Scheidig porcelain figurine on ebay and there are various examples with widely varying prices.

But it's not just about the money - the question is whether it's actually practical to have a repair done to something like this?
