Found out who it was, Robert H. Kennicott (1892-1983 Los Angeles, CA)
I'm seriously wondering if this was a portrait of Howard Hughes. It looks just like him, and his hair is parted on the same side. Going to do some more research

I checked around on ask.art.com. There is an Ohio artist William H. Kinnicott (1865-1934) . I know the painting is dated '46 but sometimes bio's can be wrong on these lesser known artists. Might be an interesting lead though. Maybe another family member who painted ??

Rucklez, I don't think I could get into an "artistic form" anymore, if ever! I really like this painting. Very slightly reminds me of my father, but without the image of a car salesman who just lost a sale. I think it just projects a lot of feeling. Oh, I have been in a number of un-artistic forms but we won't delve into that.
Actually, on the back is written "HH Despondent," and I'm seriously thinking this could be Howard Hughes, who was kind of a despondent guy to begin with.
I've compared it to some photos of him around then and they look PRETTY darn similar. What do you guys think?

Rucklez, I have the body of a 25 yr. old, changed only by the next 40 yrs. . Many of my friends have tattoo's & I tell them, "I can't imagine disfiguring such a perfect example of male physic as mine". I usually have to leave because the laughter goes past my bed time.
Why is it spelled Kinnicott, not Kennicott, I wonder? What do you know about the artist?

Would be interesting to find out this is Howard Hughes, I've never seen a photo of him with a dimple in his chin. Great portrait, whoever it is. :)
Yes you're right, good eye, he didn't have a dimple, and I noticed that as well. Could be that he asked the artist to add one so he looked manlier, or the artist took artistic license. They aren't photographs so I guess he could paint him however he wanted

The first thing that grabs me is his right eye .....if you the pictures I posted his hair is parted left , right and down the middle ...but that right eye looks like a what I call a lazy eye ....

Ok have my 5th coffee in me ,ready to rock and roll ,.f you Google HH Museums theirs 3 or 4 of them out there ...write to them and send a picture of what you have ...if its him they'll get fired up and want to talk to you , nothing to lose but time ...have a great day...
