This is the heaviest of my Art Deco lidded bowls as the glass is very thick. There are two layers of spatter, an all over red/orange/yellow spatter then a second layer of larger, random blue spatter, These are cased between a thin inner layer and a thick outer layer, both clear glass. The knob is clear.

Pictures two and three show that the blue spatter is a separate layer.

Very trippy! I recognise that acid blue from a few things.

Hi Ian, I too have noticed other spatters with this blue spatter superimposed, but I don't know that it signifies anything.

I'm a colour junkie (you might have guessed) so all of these Czech spatters are just wonderful to me. This one is particularly appealing - those big blobs of blue....so good!!

I believe this is an example of Welz production. The base decor is found in several Welz shapes, including a lamp I own, and also a wall pocket seen with an FWK Welz label.

This shape, with a slightly different finial is found in several well documented Welz décors. On those examples the finial is made of the same glass and décor as the body of the piece. Additionally, the use of this type and color of blue spotting is found on at least a couple of Welz decors, one being shown in color factory production literature.

Here is a link to an example in a different décor with the colored finial:

      http://www.kralik-glass.com/welz-images/linesspots/wls4.jpg

Great example, and a nice find in a decor combination I have not seen together before.

Thanks Karen, lovely comment :-) I suppose that going on what I post here I'm a colour junkie too.....just never thought of it in those terms!

Thaky you, Craig ...... once again!

I've found the décor you refer to posted on CW, and you are absolutely right. I remembered Ian's urns with the blue spatter but didn't make the connection.

I found your link very interesting in terms of the way in which the knob was formed. I have two boxes with knobs formed in that way....one in a shape like this one.

I'm beginning to think I have a built-in Welz magnet lol

Thank you, inky, indeed no buzz without the blue!

You are welcome. I think it is not so much of a Welz magnet, as an attraction to their design aesthetic, which is in many cases, quite unique. Their distinctive use of colors in many cases is quite different from other companies. It is likely that unique aesthetic to which your "magnet" draws you.

I remember when I first started researching Welz. We knew basically nothing about their production at all. Over a period of a couple of years I identified production of theirs and put it in folders. I finally decided one day to put pages up on my website of the décors I had identified so far. To that point there was really nothing about them anywhere.

When I built the pages and pulled it up the first time (Welz Visual Décor page) I was actually taken back by the unique aesthetic of the group of décors. It was really the first time I had grouped all of the different décors together and seen them at once. It was at that point that I was a confirmed Welz researcher for life.

Well, there's a thing Michelle, I didn't think grey days existed where you live :-)

Well, we do have lots of sunshine, but not enough rain, and so I often yearn for the deep green of England - the grass is always greener, isn't it? :)

Never a truer word, particularly in places where it rains eight days a week :-)

I'm no sort of an expert either but since reading your comment I've found this 'edged spatter' effect on a number of Welz items in their 'Lines and Spots' décor. For all I know it may occur elsewhere too......

      Anyway interesting!
