This piece was given to me years ago and I know nothing about it. It is 10.75" high and a beautiful color. Can anyone help me with the signature on it and what she was? Thanks!

Sorry, it's plastic, cast resin. She is perhaps a very stylize Quan Yin.

Really? How can you tell? she is heavy and I did the heated pin in the bottom and it bent the pin. I would appreciate any instructions on how to tell, I really thought she was Ivory or even bone.

I look for air bubbles, check. I look at the smallest areas of the mold that usually give the most problems to the caster, like the hands. See the distortion in the hands? That tells me it's cast. Look for ground semi circular lines on the bottom. A hot pin test doesn't always resolve cast resin, especially if fillers were added.

Bones tend to be hollow, which.imits the size of a piece. It also tends to have voids for blood vessels to enter.

Ivory has paterns called Schreger lines.
