Japanese of course: big, different, colourful, and lots of gold.
Shinichi Muro was born in 1949 and joined Joetsu Crystal (Kurata Glass) in 1973 after graduating from Kanazawa College of Art.
A multi prize winning glass maker, his work is held in many museums worldwide, including Corning Glass Museum and Ebel Toft Glass Museum Denmark.
Joetsu as a glass house has a long history of letting their artists make individual works in parallel with designing and making for the company.
I have said before they are one of my favourite Japanese producers and that has been because the company has attracted and kept top level glass craftsmen - Muro is one of many.
This large vase has been made in a very unusual shape with tapering, concave sides and a very Japanese small neck. The gold and coloured additions reminds me of a river bed, although I am not sure what the additional and asymmetrical fins are for! Cool anyway.
Height 24cm (9.5in) width 26cm (10.5in) weight 3.8kg
Just LOVE the form .... LANDSCAPE !!!!
I love abstract landscapes as an art form....and this is about as good as they come..... and in glass too. Perhaps your finest piece.....
A striking piece, could get lost for hours in its landscape and colours !
I agree with Vet and Sklo Karen. This piece has got it all going on. Impressive !
A masterpiece joining an artistic vision with precise accomplishment!
The rippled top is like a wavy surface of a river.
Fantastic!!..racer4four.....:-)
Simply BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Well strangely enough, this one doesn't do it for me. I get the metaphorical work but it just doesn't grab my feels. Hmm, will have to contemplate it some more, I guess. :/
im speechless on this stunner!!!

I am surprised at how much reaction this vase has triggered.
I can't thank you all enough for not just looking but commenting too.
Katherine - it's cool you don't get it.....that is what art is like! Thanks for being honest enough to say so and I am never offended by personal taste (unless it's Walmart style).
Thanks for the love and comments guys. I have now named this vase river landscape in your honour.
