Can anyone help me to identify what this axe head is from? This axe head was found on the beach in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during a time that they were dredging, I want to say that it was found in the early 80's and I need help figuring out where and what it's from? I haven't been able to find anything else quite like it, any help would be appreciated, thanks Mike Mc

You may want to add a picture of the eye as well. That might help with the ID.

i think it's some kind of medieval battle axe. the hook is for dismounting an armored horseman, i think. i don't really know much about this kind of thing, but it's very interesting that you found it on an eastern shore beach!

This is definitely not in my wheelhouse (so anyone who knows more, feel free to correct me!) but the straight lines in the eye (and the diamond pattern on the cheek) seem to suggest that this was made with a mold rather than forged. The overall shape is a pretty close match to some of the pictures you see of Chinese pole weapons. Not sure if this might have been ceremonial / decorative or possibly something to use in training (check 'ngo cho kun weapons' for a few pics) but I'd lean more toward a contemporary piece.

Cast-steel firemans's axe, possibly? 19th century?? Hook for pulling wood or b&m down, to access the seat of the fire?? M

It looks decorative rather than functional. You see these things on big heavy curtain rods, but maybe not this one!
