I found this piece on ebay late one night. I don't usually buy European engraved glass but I thought it was so cool, I had to have it. The metal plating on the bottom is hallmarked and the only two I have deciphered told me this was a German piece made after the 1870s. The base work depicts "Neptune" with water horses, nudes, and other figures. The stopper appears to be made of pewter but I am not sure. The engraving is wonderful.

If anyone has further information on this piece I would love to hear from you.

Thanks to Thomas, I have learned this piece is from Germany around 1880. A town named "Hanan" was well know for doing this type of metal work. Thomas said that these decanters can sell in the $500-$600 range at good auctions. Not bad for my $145.00 investment! Thanks again Thomas!!
