This is a sword that belonged to my husband's grandfather. He is trying to get more information on it. From what I have been able to Google, it is circa 1925-30, due to the Lilley Co changing names in 1931 to the M.C. Lilley Co. My husband comes from a long line of Masons. We would like to find out if anyone can add to the info I have found, which isn't much, to help solve the mystery. What kind of ceremonies it might have been used in or if the handle, which looks like scrimshaw, could be bone or ivory? Any info at all would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you so much!

its just a prop use by masons ...a mason outside of the lodge with a sword would stand out the door there and guard the door so no one could walk in while the were in a lodge meeting was gong on, as well as check them for a up to date lodge membership card .before announce them later...

Lol, my fur babies are the same way! I love them! You can be gone 5 mins & to them you might as well have been gone a week! :)

Thank you so much for the info. Do you have any idea about the materials? Could the handle be bone or ivory Roycroftbooksfromme1?

I did find several on ebay, but all were from the latter company, after the name change in 1931, maybe it makes no difference?

most are not but some are passed down for lodge to lodge and some are bought by members ...my under standing about testing to see if its bone ,is to heat a pin up and if it doesn't sink in its most likely bone .your right about the fur buddy's ...mine wants to eat every two hours ...lol he's just old like me I guess ..hope this helps some..

It has helped. Thank you so much Roycroftbooksfromme1. I will look into ways of testing bone although it is a very smooth finish. Doesn't really feel like it could be bone, more of a porcelain feel.
