This is another "treasure" found amongst the trash at today's rummage market. This one is rather different from the bracelet I posted the other day. Very sturdy and well decorated. Thanks to the friends below, I now know the name for this bracelet design.
Bonny, as with the other bracelet, I don't believe this is Damascene, and I'll tell you why. If you look closely, you can see that the gold sits on top of the black background. On a true a true Damascene piece, the gold will sit below, or at worst, the same plain as the black background. To make these pieces, the surface has been scratched with a design and then gold -or silver- is inlaid into these grooves. Here's an example where you can see the difference. http://postimg.org/image/ivchw0lr3/ It's still a nice find though!
Rick55 - I looked at many photos yesterday trying to find something resembling this bracelet. I also looked at genuine Damascene at one of the flea markets - a pendant and earrings set. I know Damascene is made in different countries, so wondered if the construction of the jewelry was the same. I would love to be able to find a bracelet that is made in the same manner as this one. An Image search got me Zero. Gah!
Efe, I think your bracelet is damascene look alike, embossed/stamped then painted in black and white :-)
I will search if there is a specific name for this work.
