I purchased this Seth Thomas Mantle Clock from on online auction. I love it and ponder where this clock has been all these years. I found a date mark on the back as 3981K. From previous reading I understand this to be dated as November of 1893 . Inside faint remnants of a label read. Seth Thomas Clock Company, Thomaston, Connecticut then U.S.A. is very clear. I haven't seen another like this one. I'm wondering if there is a website where I may go to find out more. It is in good working condition but it needs to be adjusted and cleaned further internally. If there are any Seth Thomas followers out there I'd appreciate your expertise!

I remember there was a good Seth Thomas book that was put out. Your library may have it or could order it from an affiliate library. They may or may not loan those particular books out.

Thank you Bladerunner22 I never thought to check out the good old fashion library. I tend to run to the internet right away.

Hi Debbs5555. Welcome to Collectors Weekly. I was lucky enough to find your clock in one of my references. It is the Seth Thomas "Drummers A". Reportedly from circa 1894 (so your date code confirms that). Made of "Old oak". 8-day half-hour strike. Cathedral Bell (Gong). White or gilt dial. Was not offered with an alarm. Height 15 1/2" Base 14". They also offered a Drummers "B" and "C" model. Very nice, apparently all original example. A quick search on the Web doesn't turn up any examples so there may not be many survivors (in the market anyway). Hope that solves your mystery. If so, please indicate "Mystery Solved" in your listing. Thanks for sharing it.

Wow Bruce99 that was amazing. You found more than I could have hoped to find. One question I still have. Were you able to see a picture of it? I ask because I don't know if the draping at the top of the clock was originally brushed with gold paint. It is very faint now but I don't know if that was someone's embellishment along the way. Other than that the mystery is solved. Thank you also to Bladerunner22. Yesterday I contacted the library and they are sending in 2 editions of Seth Thomas Catalogue books to my library from out of state. You both were very helpful and I appreciate your time although I suspect you love a good mystery! Many thanks.
