Henry M. Rose of Waterman Station, Illinois patented this barbed rail May 13 1873, no. 138,763. Mr Rose demonstrated his design at the Illinois State Fair. A couple of other well known barbed wire inventors observed his creation and came up with ideas of their own and the rest is history. They were Isaac Ellwood and Joseph Glidden. This specimin was found in Limestone County, Texas.
The third photo is a 1970s replica of the patent model submitted to the Patent Office. It was highlighted during the "Mole Man" episode of "American Pickers". I acquired it from the owner in Illinois. The original patent model is located in the Illinois State Museum (photo on right).
You got a pitcher and basin on that wash stand? Just kidding, nice wires and displays. See you in a few days.
Plan to get running water in the house soon. Tired of carrying water from the spring. Have a nice chamber pot that matches the pitcher and basin.
These are so cool . Only ones I've seen. Thank you for sharing.
