I just purchased this plate today, I love the beautiful colors. When I first saw it, I thought it was an oyster plate, but when I looked at it closer, the spaces aren't as pronounced as an oyster plate would be. The mark however has me curious, I have never seen a mark like this, any suggestions out there would be greatly appreciated.

No idea about the mark, but that wire hanger will damage the edges of that pretty plate.

Thanks Efesgirl, I thought the same thing about the hanger but that is how I bought it, looks like it has been on there awhile. I will make sure to remove it :)

The mark is likely Japanese, probably Satsuma, although it does not have the crest or mon, cross in circle, of the Shimazu clan. Many Satsuma marks do not. It should be rotated ninety degrees but I an uncertain as to which direction. I was not able to find the mark in several Satsuma listings.

I often buy plates with those dreaded wire hangers....off and into the bin! :-)
