I'm over the moon that this plant has flowered. It was given to me 5 1/2 years ago as a birthday present. The poor thing has had a pretty rough ride with my dogs, they savaged it 4 1/2 years ago, to be honest I thought that was the end. Of course I moved the poor thing, and it did nothing for 3 1/2 years, then it gradually started sprouting leaves about a year ago, then two weeks ago I noticed there were flower buds. Then low and behold, hay presto a flower then three.
To be honest I thought it was a Lily, a friend of mine told me it was a Orchid. I looked it up online and it is a Parishii Orchid.
    Many thanks for looking

I know nothing about Orchids, if anybody is knowledgeable on Orchids, is this a Asian Cymbidium Orchid.

      Hi
      Peasejean55
I usual save all the orchid when they finish blooming at Home Depot before they toss, we(my wife and I) have success with them, here is few tip.
Orchid, like, Warmth during the day, but not direct sunlight, love to be around 10/ 12 at night, every month give weak fertilizer, usual they blooming in all year around, do not overwater, Any Window with bright light, but again no direct sunlight.
Remember orchid grow in tree cavity, with just little amount of moss surrounding there root, so when it's raining, it drains rapidly .
Last call, there is reason why a orchid is sold in transparent pot, so that the root get light.
      Happy gardening

Hi Roy, winter is certainly coming. Fortunate for me I live in Southern Spain. Where I live it has it own little Eco system. Today was prefect 23 c it does get a lot cooler during the evening. In January and Febuary hopefully I'll see the surrounding mountains in snow, also I'll be able to look at the beautiful Mediterranean and hopefully be able to sit down with a Sangria, prefect.

Hi Roy, yes in northern Spain and through the plains (Madrid) they do get a lot of snow. Where I live about 2hrs drive there is the Sierra Nevadas were they have wonderful slopes.

Hi Alan, thanks for all your information on how to look after Orchids. I usually leave this plant outside. At the moment it's getting the lovely winter sun, it seems to enjoy the place it's in at the moment. I shall move it when we start getting the strong North winds. I might take your advice and buy some more Orchids and plant them in some of my tree cavities, I have loads of tree to choose from, I think it would wondering. Your advice has been much appreciated.

I have edible Rhubarb and it came with the house, a picture of the house in 1786 shows the same plant in front of the then cottage. I didn't buy the house in 1786 but much later in the 50's. The plant has suffered from dogs, cats, several humans after parties. Slates from the roof, big stamping builders boots and annoys my neighbours because it grows with wild abandon and I cant give the sticks away! So well done with your more delicate very pretty plant flower.

GeodeJem, I think your Rhubarb deserves a posting on CW. A 230 plus Rhubarb plant, it must be in very good soil, Ive just found out that the roots are called the crown. I'm personally not a great lover of Rhubarb, I remember has a kids having Rhubarb and custard, I really didn't like it, but you had to eat what you were given.

You are very welcome Peasejean55, of coarse it's even better outside, i keep it outside here to, just get inside few day's ago, because winter coming here in Ontario, not worse then Quebec City, where i use to live, we are more in south here, not to much snow, still freezing temperature though.
You right to move from North breeze, they don't really like North winds at all.

I have three orchids I bought at a discount store two years ago, the leaves bloom, and one gave me flowers last year. I didn't know how to care for them, Alan, you have given me some great lessons today, thank you!
